Well I'm sure at least ONE other person bar myself has been involved in one of these ;p You know the ones. The ones that you've all to play for. The ones that give you a fire in your stomach, and you want to give it your all. The ones that can even make you emotional, and bring you to tears. The games that matter. Any one been a part of one of these games? I've got to go now, but I have a few stories about games like this. Two of them happened in the past two months. Please share ;D |

I know what you mean Benji. I get that feeling in a lot of games, no that they matter so much, but that the other team is such a huge bunch of assholes that you just want to beat the shit out of them so hard. |

YES! I have had that feeling. Three times! Here they are, in order of importance (least important - most important) The first was back in school when I was about ten or eleven, we had a school football competition (as in, everyone in my school, not multiple schools). I remember it being a bunch of teams of four. Me and my friends, sucking at football, only got so far because we played a bunch of kids from the younger classes. Eventually, we got to a point where we played four of the best footballers in our year (one of whom now actually plays for Swansea City F.C. in the Premier League...although he's far from a first team player and I think he's on loan somewhere lower down at the moment). We were losing 4-0 but, in a random burst of energy, I dribbled past two of them and shot at goal. It went around the third guy and the goalkeeper didn't save it, so I scored a goal! And I never scored goals! Unfortunately, a 5-4 comeback never happened and we ended up losing the game 4-1 anyway. But it felt AWESOME to score the goal. The second was during a school athletics competition (this time involving other schools...like fifty of them or something. Maybe more). I was in the relay squad, and was the first runner. I remember going as fast as I could, and got the relay stick to the second runner faster than all seven of the others I was racing against. I can't remember if we won the race overall, but I won MY quarter. The third, and most memorable, was during a basketball tournament. I can't remember how old I was...most likely eleven or twelve. If I remember correctly, it was 8 vs 8. We got to the quarter finals, where played against a team we were evenly matched against. Right towards the end, my team were losing something like 29-28 or thereabouts (can't remember exactly, nor can I remember how the points system worked). Despite being a defensive-player (I've always been a defensive player in all sorts of sports...I just don't like going forward), I caught the ball and cut inwards (I was always deployed as a wide defender...kinda like where a right-back would be in football) towards the centre of the court. I stopped to look for a pass, but everyone was being marked and one of my team mates just shouted "SHOOT!". So I shot...and scored! It put my team 31-29 or something ahead and we won the game because of MY basket (goals are called baskets in basketball). Unfortunately, we got absolutely demolished in the semi-finals. We lost something like 30-2. But who cares? We wouldn't have got so far if not for me! It was the only REAL competition I can remember scoring a basket in (not counting silly little small ones that were 3 vs 3 or 5 vs 5...I always had to play in a right-winger sort of role in those competitions because they always made sure there was only one of the "great" players in each team, so I scored in quite a few of those...and won a couple of medals too!). However, I quit basketball in early 2003 (I had very good reasons to) and never went back to sports. |

Yeah. I'd have to agree. Just a shame I almost never did. If I'd continued playing football, I'd probably have made a decent centre-back, meaning I probably would have scored a few goals from set-pieces, but I had stopped playing long before everyone started learning how to cross. FUCK! EDIT - I'd probably have made a decent goal keeper, too. I'd love to save a penalty. Feels just as good as scoring a goal, I hear (not that there are many goal keepers who have done both). For me it's football that drives me the most, those reckless attempts sliding over touch-me-not's thorns resulted in my foot having serious pain and scratches. And also I was a quite good goalkeeper during my years in primary school just because I could save the goal numerous times from crazy shoots from people that are thrice as large, and then I broke my arm.
